The Wolfhaven Backstory

My name is Jonathan Perez, but you can call me JD. I am the owner and general contractor here at Wolfhaven Construction. More importantly, however, I am a husband and father of 3 (probably with more to come), and my family is the joy of my life. This provides a deep motivation for me to not only run a company that will provide for my family, but will build into my community in such a way that contributes to me family having a chance to grow up somewhere that is safe and beautiful, and is the kind of place where they too can eventually feel like they can contribute.

I began my career studying psychology, paying very close attention to the kinds of things that guide people towards health living and the kinds of things that pull people away from it. I also accompanied this Master of Arts degree in Psychology with a Master of Arts degree in Theology, because I wanted to know how the human spirit, in conjunction with the psyche, could be guided towards health and away from despair. Through many years of intense academic study and the real-world experiences I've had with friends, family, and extensive community involvement, I've come to see that the healthiest people I've met are able to integrate themselves, body, mind, and spirit into a lifestyle that nurtures all aspects of their being.

I eventually came to realize, however, that my own truest integration, the best use for my gifts and talents, lay not in academic pursuits, but in building. I caught myself sneaking out at every opportunity to get tools and materials in hand to build things that were functionally useful, aesthetically pleasing, and economically feasible, pulling together components of wood, metal, and stone into units that would improve my life and the lives of those around me. You’ve heard of the warrior poet? I consider myself something of a builder philosopher. There is deep wisdom and growth to be found in academic pursuit, but without real-world applicability, a theory isn't worth the paper it's printed on. For me, this meant that rather than pursue a clinical psychology degree, I needed to become a builder.

This puts me in rather a unique position to serve my customers. At Wolfhaven Construction, we understand that we are not just working on your house, we are helping you build your home, and that process will continue for you long after we've completed your project. We will walk with you through the concept phase, helping you find that balance of functionality, beauty, and affordability, and leaving the door open for future growth and development. That's where our name comes from: Wolfhaven.

You home should be a place of refuge and safety, removed from the stresses and toils of the outside world, a place where you can re-energize and refocus on the things that truly matter to you, until you find yourself revitalized enough to return out into the world and tackle the tasks that have been set before you. Put simply, your home is your haven.

But we are also aware that no space this side of eternity is completely devoid of the enemies of serenity. Rodents, bugs, mold, rust, and entropy, all of these and more will find every available opportunity, every gap in the walls, and every chink in the armor to reassert themselves. He who grows too comfortable and slips into laxity, may soon find his home crumbling around him. We've seen what can happen when those who tried too hard to control their surroundings at an early age slip into senility and later become unable to control anything in their lives. It's a cautionary tale. Conversely, he who leaves the door open just a little, and allows a measured admittance of the wild and the unknown, all the while connecting with nature and natural processes, will find himself remaining alert, sharpening his wits and his abilities, growing in capability and competence, and ultimately finding that he needs less and less of a barrier between himself and the world because he has become more capable of handling whatever it has to throw at him. Rather than falling prey to the proverbial "wolves at the door," he may find that he has taken on certain characteristics of the wolf himself and will therefore be able to fight them off when they advance. And he may just find the walls of his haven, the places where he is able to find rest, expanding. Obviously it takes much more than just a good home to truly find one's healthiest state of being, but the home is such a large part of everyone's daily life that it is an excellent place to start thinking about it.

I began studying psychology because I wanted to help people find health. Eventually, I realized that my gifts and talents were better suited towards building and the trades than guiding clients in a therapy room. However, I still have access to the principles I learned in my studies and can translate them into the home-building process. Let us help you think about how you can shape your home into a space that will rejuvenate your body, stimulate your mind, and foster your spirit, to a point that enables your holistic being to never stop growing toward everything you were intended to be.
